Loss is...
According to studies, 1 in 12 children in the U.S. will experience the death of a parent or sibling before they reach the age of 18. But not every child experiences loss in the same way. Whether they're the smalls (2-4 years old), the middles (5-9), the bigs (9-12) or even the teens, each group faces its own unique challenges and developmental responses. This session addresses the developmental responses and targets interventions and conversations for each age group.
Debbie recently led this session at the 2024 Interdisciplinary End of Life Symposium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
How do you respond to trauma? Whether it is the emotional experience coming from the exposure to trauma or even the hearing of traumatic experiences of others, trauma can overwhelm an individual's ability to cope and diminishes their sense of self. This session explores ways to deal with traumatic stress by understanding the feelings and addressing individual needs.
Debbie has brought this training course to first responders and even to the Michigan Press Association, assisting journalists who are often the first to respond to emergent situations behind police, EMT and fire personnel.
The holidays are a uniquely challenging time of the year for those suffering loss. This session will discuss how to use traditions to celebrate those we have lost and how to focus on our health and wellbeing.
Organizations of every type work with those facing loss.
